Manchester United have been linked with several players over the past few months as it has become clear that the squad will need to undergo an overhaul in the summer. When the Red Devils signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho last summer, many expected them to go to the next level and start competing for titles once again. Instead, it looks like they have taken a step back if anything.

At this point of time, if Manchester United do not win the Champions League, they look set to go trophyless for the fifth straight season.

Thus, it is no surprise that a new permanent manager is expected to be brought in in the summer when Ralf Rangnick’s interim run comes to an end and he would surely want to rebuild the squad in his own vision.

One player that the Red Devils have been linked with for a while is Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji, whose current deal runs out in the summer of 2023. And now, it looks like Manchester United might be ready to take a huge step in order to make a move happen.

Manchester United could offer huge contract to Akanji

As reported by BILD (via Caught Offside), Borussia Dortmund have offered Akanji a new contract worth around €8 million a year, which he has turned down. But Rangnick wants Manchester United to offer him a deal worth €15 million a year.

It remains to be seen how things turn out but it is safe to say that if Manchester United made an offer of that magnitude, it would be difficult for any player to turn it down.

On the other hand, his current deal with Borussia Dortmund will expire a little over a year later and as a result, they might look to find him a new club in the summer, if they are not able to agree a contract extension by then.
