Manchester United might be coming off of a big win against Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to a hattrick from Cristiano Ronaldo, but overall, things are not looking great for the Red Devils at this point of time. Their only chance of silverware appears to be the UEFA Champions League, where they head into their round of 16 second leg against Atletico Madrid after having drawn 1-1 in the first leg away at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Thus, it is safe to say that things need to improve at Old Trafford and Manchester United are expected to bring in a new manager in the summer.
Several new players are expected to arrive as well while many could head towards the exit door. One Manchester United star whose future is unclear at the moment is Juan Mata.
His current deal runs out in the summer and one would expect him to leave. But as reported by The Sun, Manchester United could offer Mata a coaching role if he calls time on his playing career.
Manchester United could offer coaching role to first-team star
Mata has been at Manchester United for a long time now, having signed during the run of David Moyes as manager.
Since then, he has been in and out of the first-team, never quite establishing himself as a star at Old Trafford like he had at Chelsea before that. But he has always been a dependable player and someone who is a valuable member of the squad.
Thus, it is not hard to see why the Red Devils might consider handing him a coaching role if he decides to hang his boots up. But still just 33 years of age, that does feel a bit unlikely and it is very possible for Mata to play for a couple more years at least. Let’s see what he decides to do.
