A run of underwhelming performances has highlighted some notable problems at Manchester United right now. The squad needs an overhaul in the summer, and among many weak points, the Red Devils’ defence continues to be one, with several big names like Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and more struggling to put in big performances consistently.
While things have improved at the back under the management of Ralf Rangnick, it has come at the expense of them going forward. Therefore, making new additions to the club’s defensive ranks might be a necessity next summer.
When it comes to potential targets, a number of promising defenders have already seen their names getting linked with a summer move to Manchester United. Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo is one of them.
Araujo’s current deal with Barcelona runs out in the summer of 2023, meaning that the Uruguayan will soon enter the last year of his contract at Camp Nou. As things stand, the club and the player have not been able to agree to an extension yet.
Manchester United handed Araujo transfer boost
As reported by Marca, Barcelona are not ruling anything out. While it is believed that they want Araujo to stay, any offers will be considered should they come.
Thus, it is very possible that Barcelona might be open to making a deal happen if a good offer comes in from Manchester United in the summer. It is believed that the Red Devils rate Araujo very highly and could look to bring him in in order to replace Maguire in the starting XI.
Chelsea are another club who had been linked with a potential move for Araujo but it is safe to say that they might very well be out of the race now.
Now, it remains to be seen if Manchester United do end up making a move for the Barcelona centre-back.
