It is pretty clear that Manchester United need to improve their squad. When the club had signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton in the summer, hopes were that they had done enough to put themselves in the Premier League title race. But by now, it is pretty clear that it was not the case. In fact, it feels like the Red Devils have taken a step back this season.

As things stand, they are in a difficult race to finish in the top four and unless either Chelsea or Arsenal slip up, it is difficult to see Manchester United move ahead of them.

Thus, it is no surprise that the club have been linked with a number of players in recent months as they are expected to look to improve their squad. One such player is Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

As reported by El Nacional, Manchester United consider De Jong a priority target. Barcelona are not believed to be keen on letting him leave but will look for a transfer fee around €80 million, if it was to happen.

Can Manchester United sign De Jong from Barcelona?

De Jong was considered as one of the best midfielders in Europe after he put in stunning performances during Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals a few years back.

Considering that, his time at Barcelona has been underwhelming till now even though he has come into his own in recent times under the management of Xavi and is proving to be a vital player for the club, as they make a run for a top four finish and a potential Europa League title.

Thus, there is no question that someone like De Jong has the potential to be a brilliant signing for Manchester United but, it would be very difficult to sign him from Barcelona at this point of time.
