Manchester United suffer surprise Mauricio Pochettino blow

Mauricio Pochettino is a manager who Manchester United have been linked with for a long time. He is believed to be a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson, having impressed him during his time at Southampton. After that, the Argentine would go on to establish himself as one of the top managers in world football during his time at Tottenham Hotspur, even taking them to the Champions League final.

Since then, he has become the Paris Saint-Germain manager but things have not been going his way there. While the French giants might be comfortably ahead in the Ligue 1 race, it is safe to say that they have not played their best football this season despite an incredible summer transfer window.

And rumours have suggested that if PSG fail to win the Champions League this season, Pochettino might very well be shown the exit door.

Of course, that could open a door of opportunity for Manchester United, but they have been handed an unexpected blow as well. As reported by talkSPORT (via Metro), Pochettino wants a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in a difficult position as well. After a good start, Antonio Conte has struggled to continue to get the best out of this side and there have been suggestions that he might be looking to leave in the future.

Thus, Tottenham Hotspur might be looking for a manager in the summer and if Pochettino is available at that point as well, the stars might align surrounding a reunion.

Of course, the situation is not ideal for Manchester United. But, Pochettino is not the only manager that the club have been linked with.

Erik ten Hag, Luis Enrique, Brendan Rodgers, Diego Simeone, Carlo Ancelotti, Simone Inzaghi and several others have been linked with the Manchester United job.
