Manchester United are expected to make quite a few signings in the upcoming summer transfer window, as the club have underwhelmed once again and could potentially be headed towards their fifth straight trophyless season. Thus, while the Red Devils might need to splash out, there are also several brilliant players, who might become free agents this summer. One such player is Ousmane Dembele.

While Barcelona are believed to be interested in extending his current deal, which runs out at the end of the season, it has not happened yet. And it looks like he is set to depart as a free agent.

Manchester United are believed to have been interested in Dembele for years now, without the move ever transpiring. But now, it looks like they have been handed a boost in the pursuit of the French winger.

As reported by SPORT, Juventus have stepped aside in their interest for Dembele and Chelsea do not see it clearly at the moment either, with situation surrounding Roman Abramovich.

Manchester United might be favourites in race for Dembele now

Manchester United were believed to be competing with Chelsea and Juventus in the race for Dembele’s signature. But now, with both of them appearing to be out of the race, the Red Devils might very well be the favourites to sign the French winger.

Of course, one cannot completely rule out the chances of Dembele extending his contract with Barcelona, if his options to go elsewhere start to reduce. The improvement that the club have shown since the arrival of Xavi as manager can play a factor as well.

Barcelona had signed Dembele in a transfer move believed to potentially rise up to £135 million back in the summer of 2017. But a series of injuries have meant that his development has stalled and he has not managed to fulfil his potential till now.
