When Cristiano Ronaldo completed a return to Manchester United in the summer, it is safe to say that fans were ecstatic. He had left the club over a decade ago, in 2009, to join Real Madrid in a then world record transfer move. Since then, he had established himself as one of the greatest players in football history and even at the age of 36, he was expected to turn the Red Devils back into Premier League contenders.

The start from the Portuguese superstar was bright as well but since then, things have dried up for him, especially in front of goal.

One of the greatest goalscorers in the history of the game, it looks like Ronaldo is lacking confidence right now. He turned 37 years of age recently. And it appears that Manchester United might be looking to replace him next summer.

As reported by the Daily Mail, according to Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is Manchester United’s primary target to replace Ronaldo in the summer.

Manchester United are targeting Osimhen as Ronaldo’s replacement

Osimhen enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Lille in 2019/20 and has then been excellent since joining Napoli.

He is one of the most exciting young strikers in the world and it is not hard to see why Manchester United might be interested in the Nigerian international.

Osimhen has all the attributes to be one of the best players in the world one day. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for him though.

It won’t be easy to bring him to Old Trafford. On one hand, there is expected to be a lot of interest in Osimhen’s signature if he was on the move. On the other hand, Napoli were believed to have shelled out a €68 million transfer fee in 2020 to sign the striker from Lille. Thus, they will surely be looking for more than that to let him leave.
