Anthony Martial was one of the most highly-rated players at Manchester United not too long ago. When the club had signed him from AS Monaco in a then world record transfer move for a teenager, many expected the Frenchman to develop into a Ballon d’Or contender in the future. And a few seasons back, it was looking like he could be headed for that level.

Martial was the top scorer for Manchester United in the 2019/20 campaign and it had looked like the club might have found a long-term solution at striker. Things have gone downhill since then for the French international.

He struggled in the 2020/21 campaign and after not receiving enough playing time this season, following the return of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, Martial ended up joining Sevilla on loan till the end of the season.

Thus, there have been doubts about what the player’s long-term future is. But as reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United would prefer to keep Martial if possible.

Manchester United appear to have plans for Martial in the future

It looks like Manchester United might not be ready to let Martial leave on a permanent basis yet, especially with the club expected to bring in a long-term manager in the not too distant future. A lot could depend on what he thinks about the Frenchman.

Currently at Sevilla on loan, Martial has made a bright start. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored and assisted once each for the Spanish club till now.

But at the same time, he has already suffered an injury problem as well and it remains to be seen when he will return to the pitch. The Frenchman missed the recent game against Real Betis. What is even more interesting though is what the future holds for him at Manchester United.
