Manchester United are currently under a lot of pressure, with the Red Devils looking likely to undergo another trophyless season as well as potentially finishing the Premier League season outside the top four. If that happens, they will be out of next season’s Champions League, unless they end up winning the competition this time. It remains to be seen how things turn out as we enter the last few months of the campaign.

Manchester United’s topsy-turvy defensive performances have been one of the main reasons why they are in such a situation. In the 2021/22 campaign, the Red Devils have conceded 34 goals from 27 Premier League matches.

Despite the signing of Raphael Varane, the defence has hardly improved this season. Although, not every defender has got enough chances. One such player is Eric Bailly.

Despite of the underwhelming displays defensively from Manchester United throughout the season, as well as injury problems at the back, Bailly has failed to get consistent playing time. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has played just 487 minutes of football across 7 appearances in all competitions.

Barcelona seem interested in the Manchester United defender

As reported by the Daily Star, Barcelona are targeting a summer swoop for Bailly. Manchester United signed the centre-back for a transfer fee around £30 million in the summer of 2016. With him having more than two years left on his current contract, it is understood that the La Liga giants might have to shell out a similar figure to sign the Ivory Coast international.

Barcelona have recently signed a number of Premier League stars like Ferran Torres, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Adama Traore. Could they add Bailly to that list in the summer?

Manchester United seem to be close to seeing players such as Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and more leave. And it would not be a surprise if Bailly did as well.
