Manchester United’s massive Cristiano Ronaldo problem
Manchester United fans were delighted when the club signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus in the summer. The Portuguese superstar had left the Theatre of Dreams over a decade ago in 2009, in order to join Real Madrid. Since then, there had always been rumours about a potential comeback one day but at that point, most fans had given up hope of ever seeing him in the club’s shirt again.
Ronaldo was welcomed back to Old Trafford with open arms and many believed that his signing could turn Manchester United into genuine Premier League contenders.
And in the beginning, it looked like that was the case as well, as Ronaldo made a tremendous start to his second spell at Manchester United.
But since then, his performances have faded away considerably and the team appear to have taken a step back as well, to the point where people are starting to question whether Ronaldo should be dropped. Not many would have thought this is how things would go, even a few months back.
Manchester United’s massive Cristiano Ronaldo problem
Ronaldo is struggling right now. There are no two ways about it. And if Manchester United had an in-form striker at the club right now, he might already be on the bench.
But that is not the case. Edinson Cavani has continued to struggle with injuries while Marcus Rashford, also capable of playing up front, looks out of form himself. Anthony Martial has been sent out on loan to Sevilla.
It is hard not to be worried about Ronaldo though. This does not look like the Portuguese superstar who would barely have goal droughts and even when he did, he would snap out of them quickly and start scoring consistently once again.
Ronaldo has scored only once this year and we are already at the end of February. And if Manchester United are to have a successful season, they will be hoping that he rediscovers his form soon.
