Coming into the season, one of Manchester United’s biggest strengths was considered to be their forward department. They already had Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in their ranks and had been the second highest scoring team in the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign, behind only Manchester City. And they signed Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.

On paper, the Red Devils have one of the best squads in the world. But the performances on the pitch have not shown that. If they don’t win the Champions League this time around, they will finish trophyless for the fifth straight season.

Since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager, Manchester United have improved. But one area that they have struggled is going forward, struggling to score more than once in the majority of the games.

Thus, it would not be a huge surprise if the club end up going after a striker in the summer and there is an exciting update for Manchester United, surrounding the future of Harry Kane.

Manchester United look like favourites to sign Kane

As reported by Bild (via The Sun), Pep Guardiola is no longer in the running for Kane and instead is focusing on Haaland. It means that Manchester United are now leading the race for the Tottenham Hotspur superstar.

Kane was heavily linked with a move away from the London club last summer but it ultimately did not end up happening.

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled this season as well though, have already had a change in managers, and could be headed for another trophyless campaign. As a result, it would not be a surprise if Kane looks for a move away next summer as well. It would be difficult for any club to pull off though, as it would most probably take a transfer fee well north of £100 million to sign the England captain.
