It is easy to forget but last summer, it was believed that David de Gea’s time at Manchester United was slowly coming to an end. He had fallen behind Dean Henderson in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s goalkeeping pecking order in the second half of last season and after a disappointing UEFA Europa League final performance, many felt that it was time for the club to show him the Old Trafford exit door.

De Gea had not been anywhere near his best for several seasons at that point. But circumstances led to him getting another chance at Manchester United this season and it is safe to say that he has taken it with both hands.

De Gea has looked as good as ever this season. It might even be the most consistent run of form that he has ever shown through the course of his career. He has simply been outstanding and looks like one of the best goalkeepers in the world once again.

There were doubts surrounding his future at Manchester United in the summer but there are no doubts now. And as reported by Sky Sports, De Gea said:

"“Now I feel as if I’m from Manchester; I just feel like anyone else from Manchester. Where you are loved and welcomed is your home.“I’ve been here for many years and, obviously, anything can happen in life, in the world of football, but honestly I don’t see myself away from Manchester United.”"

It sounds like De Gea has no plans to leave Manchester United anytime soon. And the tables have certainly turned for him since last season.

Right now, it looks like it is Henderson, who is set to depart the club. He was linked with a move away in January itself and although it did not happen, an exit looks almost certain next summer for the English goalkeeper.

On the other hand, De Gea’s current deal with Manchester United runs till the summer of 2023, with the club believed to have an option for a further year. But rumours have suggested that they will look to hand him an extension soon.
