Every match for Manchester United moving forward is a bit of a must win situation right now, if they are to finish in the top four of the Premier League. Manchester City and Liverpool almost look certain to finish in the top two and then, there is a tight race between Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Wolves and the Red Devils, for the remaining two Champions League qualifying spots.
The biggest problem that Manchester United have faced this season is their stop-start form. Just when it looks like the club are set to embark on a good run, they stumble once again.
If they are to finish in the top four though, they will need to show some consistency. The 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion was a great result for Manchester United, but it would not mean much if they end up dropping points in the following games.
Thus, the trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds United is very important for Ralf Rangnick’s side. But they have been handed a major blow heading into the game, as it looks like Edinson Cavani will miss out on the day. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, the interim manager said:
"“Well, as it seems, Edinson Cavani will still be out.“He is still having some problems with his groin and, on the other hand, also some with his stomach.”"
Manchester United handed Cavani blow before facing Leeds United
This has been the story of Cavani’s season till now. He had an impressive second half to the 2020/21 campaign but has just failed to get it going this time around, struggling with form, fitness and playing time.
He will be missing out in the game against Leeds United as well and it seems almost certain that Cristiano Ronaldo will be leading the line for Manchester United even though he has not been anywhere near his best form either in recent times.
This could be the perfect game for him to get some of his rhythm and confidence back though, with only Norwich City conceding more goals than Leeds United in the Premier League this season till now.
