Manchester United have a lot of problems right now. The 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion might have taken a lot of the pressure off of the shoulders of the players, but there is no hiding from the fact that the club are in a tight race to finish in the top four with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wolves. The third and fourth spot appear to be up for grabs at the moment.

While the Red Devils continue to stumble on the pitch, it looks like they have a lot of worries off it as well.

As reported by the Mirror, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire are involved in a power struggle over the Manchester United captaincy.

Maguire is believed to be reluctant to hand over the armband for the rest of the season for fear that he might lose the captaincy on a permanent basis if he did. On the other hand, Ralf Rangnick has called on Ronaldo to mentor the youngsters in the team, which appears to have led to further friction.

Ronaldo or Maguire, who should be the Manchester United captain?

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal. Maguire has struggled for form this season. And questions have been raised about whether the Manchester United captain should even be starting at this point of time.

On the other hand, Ronaldo has been nowhere near his best either and it was just in the last game that he brought an end to his goal drought. Thus, is he the right man to be handed the captain’s armband? At 37 years of age and with his future up in the air, it does not feel like a long-term solution.

It remains to be seen how things turn out. Whatever may be the case, hopefully it will help Manchester United finish in the top four.
