Manchester United are expected to look to bring in a new manager in the summer. Ralf Rangnick is the interim manager right now but he has not impressed to the point where he would be offered the job on a permanent basis unless something unexpected happens moving forward. As a result, names like Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers and a few others have been linked with the Old Trafford job.

But now, it seems that Manchester United might potentially have a chance to bring in a manager with much more pedigree than any of them, in the form of Diego Simeone.

After winning the La Liga title last season, Atletico Madrid have failed to hit those heights this time around. In fact, they are currently sitting at fifth in the league table and look pretty much out of the title picture. And some rumours have emerged that Simeone leaving the club cannot be ruled out.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the decision will come down to Simeone but if he does want to leave, Ernesto Valverde would be the favourite to replace him.

Manchester United have possible Simeone chance

It is safe to say the Simeone might be the perfect manager for a club like Manchester United, who are in need of a rebuild.

When Simeone arrived at Atletico Madrid in December of 2011, the Spanish club were struggling. In his nine full seasons in charge of the club since then, they have never finished outside of the top 3 in La Liga, winning the competition twice. They have also finished as runners up in the Champions League on two occasions as well.

Just for perspective, before Simeone’s arrival, they had last finished in the top 3 of La Liga in the 1995/96 season.

Thus, if Manchester United were able to appoint Simeone, it would be a major coup. But, it feels like it would all come down to the Argentine manager. His current deal with Atletico Madrid runs till the summer of 2024.
