Manchester United’s season has not gone nearly as well as they would have expected coming into it. The club are out of both the League Cup and FA Cup, find themselves in a tough race to finish in the top four of the Premier League and their only hope of silverware appears to be the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16. It is safe to say that the Red Devils need to improve all over the pitch.

One key area that they need to strengthen is their defence. Despite signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in the summer, there has not been significant improvement at the back for Manchester United.

Varane has struggled for both form and fitness, while questions have been raised abut the performances of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well.

Thus, it is safe to say that the club could do with another option at the back. And as reported by Marca, Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo has very strong offers from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Barcelona’s Araujo has offers from Manchester United and Chelsea

Araujo has been a standout for Barcelona in recent times and although the club might have struggled this season, the Uruguayan international has been a shining light at the back.

His current deal with Barcelona is believed to run out in the summer of 2023 though and till now, the club have not been able to agree a contract extension with the defender. And it is very possible that they could be open to letting Araujo leave next summer in order to avoid a similar situation to Ousmane Dembele.

Still just 22 years of age, Araujo is a top prospect for sure and could be a solid addition for Manchester United. But if he was to leave Barcelona, Chelsea appear to have their eyes on a transfer move as well.
