Manchester United have some world-class options up front right now like Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and others, but even then, they have struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. And with the Old Trafford futures of some of their forwards up in the air as well, the club might very well need to strengthen there in the upcoming summer transfer window.

As a result, the club have been linked with quite a few strikers in recent times and one name that has emerged in this regard is that of Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick.

Schick is going through a brilliant campaign right now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 19 goals and provided 3 assists in 19 Bundesliga appearances this season till now. And he had a brilliant EURO 2020 campaign as well.

Thus, signing someone like Schick would represent a major coup on the part of Manchester United and the club’s chances appear to have been handed a major boost in that regard as well.

Schick’s past comments about Manchester United emerge

Back in 2017, while speaking to Reporter Magazin and as reported by Metro, Schick had said:

"‘It’s not really possible to move much higher [than Roma] but there are a few clubs… let’s say Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United.’"

Thus, it is safe to say that Manchester United appear to be a club that Schick has always had his eyes on. Have his targets changed since 2017 though?

Since then, Manchester United have not enjoyed a great run of form. In fact, their last trophy came in 2017 as the Red Devils appear set to be headed towards their fifth straight trophyless campaign this time around unless something unexpected happens and they end up winning the Champions League, which is highly unlikely.

If Schick was to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the near future, there would not be any lack of interest in his signature, especially after the campaign that he has enjoyed this time around.
