Manchester United had a relatively quiet January transfer window. Despite loaning out a number of players last month, the club decided against bringing in new signings. And with the Red Devils expected to appoint a new manager next summer, it is somewhat understandable why they chose that approach, as it appears that they want to rebuild the squad in his vision.

However, the rumours surrounding a new manager have not stopped the club from being linked with a number of players, who they could end up making a move for in the upcoming summer transfer market.

Manchester United need to bring in several players to fill holes all over the field. And one of them might be in their defence.

The club signed Raphael Varane last summer. But the Frenchman has not had the impact that one would have expected. Thus, there is a feeling around Old Trafford that the club might try their luck once again next summer when it comes to the centre-back position and Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United.

As reported by SPORT (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are serious about signing Araujo and have made an approach for the Uruguayan. Chelsea have also been linked with a potential move.

At Barcelona, Araujo’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2023 and they are very interested in handing him a new contract. They have not been able to agree to terms on a new deal though and after how things turned out involving Ousmane Dembele, one would expect the La Liga giants to be nervous about the situation.

Thus, it is very possible that they might be open to letting him leave next summer if a new contract has not been agreed by then. On the other hand, a move to the Premier League might potentially be more lucrative for Araujo.
