When Manchester United signed Edinson Cavani in the summer of 2020, after PSG had allowed him to leave at the end of his contract, many had raised their eyebrows about whether the Uruguayan could adjust to the Premier League at that stage of his career. But it is safe to say that the striker showed during his time at Old Trafford that he could and then some.

Yes, Cavani did have a slow start to life in a Manchester United shirt and appeared to struggle with both fitness and form. But he would come into his own in the second half of the campaign and then, there was no stopping him.

On top of his game, Cavani looked like one of the most in-form players in the Premier League and was instrumental in guiding Manchester United to the Europa League final.

This season though, things have not gone his way at Old Trafford, following the return of Cristiano Ronaldo. On top of that, his current deal runs out next summer. And as tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Cavani is expected to leave Manchester United as a free agent in June and his priority will be to try an experience in La Liga.

Cavani looks set to leave Manchester United and could head for La Liga

After struggling for playing time at Manchester United this season, it would not be a surprise to see him leave the club in the summer.

On the other hand, he has been linked with a potential move to Barcelona in recent times, although Xavi’s side did end up signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and might no longer be in the running for Cavani.

Of course, things can change very quickly in football. Even last season, Cavani looked set to leave Manchester United before his great run of form ended up with him signing an extension.
