After being knocked out of the FA Cup, at the hands of Championship side Middlesbrough, in the fourth round, it is safe to say that Manchester United’s focus must now shift towards the top four race in the Premier League. Although still in two competitions, it does feel like their chances of winning silverware this season are quite low, unless something unexpected ends up happening.

They will come up against Atletico Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League and it is always difficult to win Europe’s elite competition even though they might have Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad this time around. It remains to be seen if they can make a deep run in the competition.

On the other hand, even winning all of their remaining games in the Premier League this season might not be enough for them to win the competition, with Manchester City looking like heavy favourites to come out on top again while Liverpool have a chance as well.

And, Manchester United might have made a huge mistake in the January transfer window which might end up having huge implications on their top four chances.

It is safe to say that Manchester United need to strengthen all over the pitch in their upcoming transfer windows.

But one area that needs immediate attention is their midfield. The club do not have a lot of options in the middle of the park and were expected to make a signing there last summer, but did not end up doing so.

Then, they were linked with several midfielders this January as well, but once again, Manchester United decided not to make a move. On the other hand, they sent out Donny van de Beek on loan to Everton, further reducing their options there.
