Barcelona targeting another Manchester United star

The names of Barcelona and Manchester United have been linked with each other several times recently with rumours never quite going away about stars potentially moving from one club to another. But to be very honest, for all the rumours, there have not been a lot of moves that have taken place till now. Yet, it looks like the La Liga giants have their eyes on a player who has struggled for playing time at Old Trafford.

The signing of Alex Telles was one of the four deals that Manchester United pulled off in the 2020 summer transfer window. Since joining the club, the Brazilian left-back may not have enjoyed a regular run in the team but his arrival has massively helped others, like Luke Shaw.

Shaw had been an underperformer at left-back for years before Telles’ arrival. The competition for places provided by the Brazilian has subsequently led to Shaw finding his finest form in a Manchester United shirt.

Shaw enjoyed an exceptional 2020/21 season, with him picking up the Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year for his performances. On the other hand though, Telles struggled for playing time, with his counterpart performing like one of the best left-backs in the world.

Barcelona appear to have their eyes on Manchester United star

As tweeted out by Gerard Romero, Barcelona have shortlisted the names of five potential targets for the left-back position on a 6-month loan. Besides Telles, the list includes Juventus’ Alex Sandro, Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro, Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico and Villarreal’s Alfonso Pedraza:

While Telles has looked like a bigger part of the Manchester United first-team picture in recent times, he still seems to be behind Shaw in the pecking order at Old Trafford. Considering the current situation, Barcelona might consider testing the waters of a potential loan deal.

It appears that the La Liga giants want to add a left-back to their ranks as soon as possible. Could Telles prove to be the solution for them?

Manchester United do not have a replacement for Telles at the moment though. Brandon Williams is on loan at Norwich City and is likely to spend the rest of the season there. Thus, it would be a surprise if he did leave for Barcelona on loan.
