Antonio Conte is a manager Manchester United were linked with heavily earlier in the season. And rumours had suggested that the Italian was interested in taking the Old Trafford job as well. Ultimately though, he has ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur as suggestions were that the Red Devils decided not to pursue a move for the former Premier League winner with Chelsea.

In hindsight, that might have been a big mistake on their part. Manchester United have continued to struggle in the Premier League this season despite the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager.

On the other hand, Conte has steadied the ship at Tottenham Hotspur and they look very much in contention for a top four spot now.

And it appears that Conte has his eye on a Manchester United star as well in the form of Jesse Lingard. Rumours have swirled around about a potential move recently and as reported by Give Me Sport, when asked about it, Michael Bridge said:

"“I have to be honest with you, yes, there is truth in it.”"

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Manchester United star

Lingard enjoyed a tremendous loan spell at West Ham United in the second half of last season and during that period of time, he was one of the most in-form players in the Premier League.

Thus, when he returned to Old Trafford this summer, there were high hopes that he could make an impact for Manchester United as well. But unfortunately, that has not happened and he has barely been given chances to do it either.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Lingard has made 14 appearances this season and featured for just 273 minutes in total, scoring twice and assisting once.

His current deal at Manchester United is set to run out next summer and at this point of time, it feels unlikely that he will end up extending his contract at Old Trafford. Thus, a move to Tottenham Hotspur could very well be on the cards for the English international.
