Bruno Fernandes finally makes an impact

This season, a lot of questions have been raised about Bruno Fernandes as he has not been anywhere near his effective best.

Fernandes had started the season in the best manner possible by scoring a hattrick in the opening Premier League game of the season against Leeds United. Since then though, he had struggled in front of goal and managed to find the back of the net just twice more heading into the game against Aston Villa.

The Portuguese superstar finally managed to make an impact though, by scoring a brilliant brace against Aston Villa away from home.

Unfortunately for the Red Devils it was not enough to get all three points as they could only get a 2-2 draw against Steven Gerrard’s side with late goals from Jacob Ramsey and Phillippe Coutinho grabbing a point for Aston Villa from the jaws of defeat.

This is a hammer blow to Manchester United’s top four hopes

While Manchester United might be in the knockout phase of the Champions League and the fourth round of the FA Cup, the club’s primary focus right now must be to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

In that regard, Chelsea’s form has been a cause for optimism for Manchester United, when it comes to their chances of finishing in the top four.

Chelsea lost even today, 1-0 against Manchester City, but Manchester United were not able to capitalise. Ralf Rangnick’s side were only able to get one point from their own game against Aston Villa.

It is safe to say that things need to improve drastically at Old Trafford over the coming weeks and months if they are to finish in the top four this season, because on current form, the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, appear to have a much better chance.
