Manchester United and Aston Villa played out a tight FA Cup third round tie recently, with the Red Devils coming out on top in a 1-0 win, thanks to a goal from Scott McTominay. It is not long before the two sides meet again though, this time in the Premier League, on Saturday at Villa Park. And if the earlier game was anything to go by, Ralf Rangnick’s side will need to be at the top of their game.

It is not just on the pitch that the two sides might be involved in a tight contest though. It looks like the two are competing in a transfer race with each other as well.

As reported by The Telegraph (via Caught Offside), Manchester United are joined by Aston Villa in tracking Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma.

Bissouma has been a standout for The Seagulls since joining them but his current deal is believed to run out in the summer of 2023. Thus, he could possibly be on his way out of the club soon. Rumours have suggested that Brighton & Hove Albion could be looking for a transfer fee in the region of £40 million to £50 million to let him leave.

Manchester United could certainly do with another addition in the middle of the park as that has been one of their weaknesses in recent years.

Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek could possibly be on their way out of the club soon, with their Old Trafford futures up in the air.

On the other hand, Nemanja Matic is no longer in his prime as a footballer at 33 years of age. And a lot of questions have been asked about Fred and Scott McTominay, and their lack of consistency. Thus, someone like Bissouma would be a solid addition for Manchester United.
