Many Manchester United fans believe that the club should have appointed Antonio Conte as their manager when things started to go wrong under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management earlier on in the campaign. Instead, Tottenham Hotspur ended up getting a deal over the line for the Italian tactician, and as one would have expected, they have improved a lot since the move.
On the other hand, Manchester United have continued to struggle for performances even though their results have improved since the departure of Solskjaer. Currently, Ralf Rangnick is the interim manager of the club till the end of the season.
Tottenham Hotspur appear to have their eyes on a Manchester United star, who has struggled for playing time this season.
As reported by BBC, Tottenham Hotspur have spoken to Jesse Lingard’s camp about a potential move in the summer. It is understood that the player has no intention of leaving the club during the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur in talks to sign Manchester United star
Lingard had enjoyed a terrific half-a-season loan spell at West Ham United in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign and when he returned to Manchester United in the summer, there were high hopes that he would contribute to the team.
Unfortunately, that has not turned out to be the case as Lingard has mostly remained out of the first-team picture. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 13 appearances this season and featured for 272 minutes of football.
Lingard’s current deal with Manchester United runs out at the end of this season and at this point of time, it feels unlikely that he will sign an extension considering his lack of playing time. As a result, he could very well walk out of Old Trafford as a free agent.
Tottenham Hotspur are not the only club believed to be interested in Lingard though as West Ham United and Newcastle United have been linked with him in recent times as well.
