Edinson Cavani enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign for Manchester United. The Uruguayan had arrived in the summer of 2020 as a free agent and made a slow start to life at Old Trafford. But he came into his own in the second half of the campaign, finding the back of the net on a consistent basis and looking like one of the best strikers in the world. Thus, most people expected him to lead the line for the Red Devils this season.

That changed with the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United in the summer though. That, combined with Cavani’s own injury problems, have meant that he has not played a lot of football this season.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Cavani has made 11 appearances and scored just twice, while featuring for 498 minutes in total.

Thus, he has been linked with a move away from Manchester United consistently over the past few months, with clubs like Barcelona and Juventus believed to be interested. But it looks like Cavani has decided to stay on. As reported by Sky Sports, Ralf Rangnick revealed:

"“He came to my office and we spoke for almost half an hour and he told me that he will definitely stay, he will want to stay until the end of the season.”"

Cavani has made his decision regarding his Manchester United future

While Cavani might not have played a lot of football for Manchester United this season, he remains an important part of this team. Also, we have seen him feature more regularly in recent weeks as Rangnick has played a 4-2-2-2 system.

As we saw last season, on top of his game, Cavani is still an excellent striker and can make an impact at the very top level.

Also, he is a role model for a lot of the club’s youngsters and can help in their developments as well.

Thus, overall, it is a huge positive for Manchester United that Cavani has decided to stay on. His current deal with the club runs out at the end of the season.
