Manchester United have worries all over the pitch right now and surprisingly, their frontline might be one of them. On paper, they have arguably the best forward department in the entire Premier League, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial at Old Trafford. But on the pitch, it has not just quite worked out for the Red Devils.
Manchester United have struggled in front of goal in recent games. On top of that, Cavani and Martial have been linked with moves away from the club in January.
The exit of Martial seems the more likely out of the two right now while it is expected that the Red Devils will hold on to Cavani. But if the two were to depart this month, the club would need to bring in a replacement.
As reported by L’Equipe (via The Sun), Mauro Icardi is being eyed as a potential replacement if Cavani and Martial were to depart Manchester United.
Manchester United eye Icardi as a potential replacement for Cavani and Martial
Once upon a time, Icardi was one of the most highly-rated strikers in the world but things have not gone the way of the Argentine in recent years.
While there is no question about his ability to find the back of the net, he has never quite managed to establish himself as a regular in Paris Saint-Germain’s first-team and now, he is being linked with a move away from the club.
At 28 years of age, he should still have a lot of football left in the tank though and could prove to be a great signing for many clubs around Europe, including Manchester United.
It remains to be seen if the club do end up making a move for the Argentine as it will depend on the Old Trafford futures of Cavani and Martial.
