There was a lot of excitement around Manchester United when the club appointed Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager of the club. The German is a legendary figure in modern football management and has had an influence on the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, just to name a few. Thus, fans hoped that he could be the one to turn the Red Devils’ season around.

Some even expected Rangnick to excel at Manchester United and eventually be handed the managerial role on a permanent basis. While still possible, the early signs are not very positive in that regard.

Manchester United’s results have been decent since Rangnick’s arrival but the performances have left a lot to be desired, and they have struggled tremendously in front of goal. Thus, it looks very likely that the club will go for a long-term manager next summer.

There is a very interesting update in that regard. As reported by The Times (via Metro), Mauricio Pochettino has been replaced as Manchester United’s first-choice to become the club’s next manager, with the Red Devils now targeting Erik ten Hag of Ajax.

Pochettino has been linked with the Manchester United job for a long time, dating as far back as when he was still with Tottenham Hotspur but it has never materialised.

But it must be said that Ten Hag has been much more impressive than Pochettino in recent times.

Pochettino has struggled to get the best out of Paris Saint-Germain, despite the French club assembling one of the most incredible squads in the history of the game. On the other hand, Ajax have dominated in the Champions League this season. Ten Hag had also guided them to an unlikely Champions League semi-final in the past.
