Manchester United: 3 players who should get a chance vs Aston Villa
Phil Jones
Jones made an incredible return to action recently after not making a senior appearance for Manchester United for years. It was certainly a feel good moment for the player, the club and the fans.
But even more importantly, Jones put in a solid display against Wolves and was one of Manchester United’s best players on the day.
Thus, while he might have gotten his chance because a number of other defenders were not available, he should get another one in the game against Aston Villa, after impressing the last time out, especially for a player who had barely played any football in such a long length of time.
Now, one has to admit that Jones is not a long-term solution for Manchester United unless he is able to complete an incredible turnaround. But with other defenders struggling with both form and injuries, he could certainly make a contribution to this team.
Rumours have also suggested that Ralf Rangnick has been impressed by him in training.
Jesse Lingard
Lingard is another player who would have hoped for more first-team minutes when Rangnick arrived as the club’s interim manager.
But similar to Donny van de Beek, things have remained pretty much the same for the England international as well, as he has continued to struggle to get any meaningful first-team minutes for Manchester United.
The one advantage that Lingard has though is the fact that his current deal with the club will run out next summer and it feels very unlikely that he would sign an extension with the Red Devils, after struggling for playing time at Old Trafford for a while now.
The game against Aston Villa is a prime chance for Rangnick to give Lingard a run out and see what he can bring to the table for Manchester United. During his loan spell at West Ham United, he had shown that on top of his game, he is a spectacular player.
