Manchester United’s hopes of breaking into the top four of the Premier League were handed a huge blow when they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves at Old Trafford. And to be honest, the Red Devils were completely dominated by the visitors and the game was not nearly as close as the scoreline suggests. The loss was not the only blow that the club suffered on this occasion though.

When Manchester United travel away to face Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, they will know the importance of getting all three points. The Red Devils will be without two of their first-team regulars though.

As reported by Manchester United’s official website, both Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw picked up their fifth bookings of the Premier League season and are now suspended for their next outing in the division, which will be away at Aston Villa on January 15.

Both players had started the game against Wolves but neither was able to make a difference on the day.

Manchester United are set to face Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round before facing them in the Premier League.

Aston Villa had found some form after the arrival of Gerrard as manager but have struggled once again in recent weeks.

Going into the game, one would consider Manchester United as the favourites but not by a big margin. They have only lost once since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager.

It must be said though that the performances have left a lot to be desired since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager. It has looked like the Red Devils are still coming to grips with his system of football. They will need to do it soon though, if they are to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
