Manchester United enjoyed a tremendous summer transfer window, keeping the core of the squad together that had finished second in the Premier League last season while bringing in superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane as well. Thus, it was not a surprise when many considered them as genuine title contenders this season.
It is safe to say that things have gone in almost the opposite direction. Manchester United have not made the start that they would have hoped for and with almost half the season played out, their target must now be to find a way to get back into the top four.
They have another major worry though, as there are quite a few players who have not played a lot of football this season as a direct consequence of their incredible squad depth.
As a result, they have been linked with moves away from the club in the near future. There are some though, that the Red Devils need to hold on to.
Manchester United: 3 players they must keep despite exit rumours
Here are three players that Manchester United must keep, despite rumours linking them with a move away from the club in the near future:
Edinson Cavani
Cavani had enjoyed a brilliant second half to the 2020/21 campaign and most people would have expected him to play a bigger role this season than he has till now.
The arrival of Ronaldo combined with the Uruguayan’s injury problems have meant that he has barely featured. And he has also been linked with a move to Barcelona in January.
But as Cavani showed with his display against Newcastle United, scoring the equaliser for Manchester United, he still has a lot to offer and the Red Devils must not let them leave before the end of the season despite the heavy transfer rumours.
