It is safe to say that Manchester United were the favourites heading into the game against Newcastle United. The Magpies have struggled this season and find themselves firmly in the relegation zone. On the other hand, the Red Devils had picked up some decent form since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager. The game did not turn out as most would have expected though.

It ended in a 1-1 draw but it was Newcastle United who must have been disappointed not to get a win. If not for the brilliance of David de Gea in goal for Manchester United, they could have easily taken all three points here.

On the other hand, Ralf Rangnick’s side had to rely on a scruffy goal from Edinson Cavani for the equaliser. And it goes without saying that this was not a good performance from them.

Jamie Carragher has made a worrying claim about Manchester United following their draw against Eddie Howe’s side. As reported by the Express, the Liverpool legend told Sky Sports:

"“The thing that would worry me as a Manchester United fan is the lack of chances they’re creating in games.“You’ve also got to think of the opposition they’re playing again. This is a depleted Newcastle team who have conceded 11 in the last three games.“You look at Norwich who Manchester United never really created anything against, they’ve just conceded five against Arsenal. That would be the worry for me.”"

Now, it is only natural that the players would take some time to come to grips with Rangnick’s style of football. But worryingly, the performances have seemed to take a dip over the last few games.

The 1-0 win over Crystal Palace was a very positive performance in Rangnick’s first game in charge. It was followed by a 1-1 draw against Young Boys, although several Manchester United stars were rested for that one.

Then the Red Devils had to rely on a 75th minute Cristiano Ronaldo penalty kick to get a 1-0 win against Norwich City. And now, they stumbled their way to a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United.

It must be pointed out that Newcastle United and Norwich City sit at 19th and 20th in the Premier League table respectively.
