Barcelona have been linked with several Manchester United stars in recent times like Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. But the Red Devils might have their eyes on a player from the Spanish giants as well. Thus, it is safe to say that things could get interesting in the near future between the two clubs.

One of Manchester United’s biggest weaknesses in recent times has been their defence. Raphael Varane’s signing in the summer from Real Madrid was expected to solve this issue but that has not turned out to be the case.

Questions have been asked about first-team regulars like Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well as they have struggled to recapture their form from last season. Thus, it would not be a huge surprise if the club did end up making a move for a defender in the not too distant future.

As reported by El Nacional, clubs like Juventus and Bayern Munich are believed to be interested in Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo but Manchester United appear to be the strongest contenders and are willing to shell out a €30 million-plus transfer fee for him.

Manchester United are favourites in transfer race for Barcelona’s Araujo

Although Barcelona have struggled this season, currently sitting at 7th in La Liga and already out of the Champions League, Araujo has managed to make an impression with his performances.

The Uruguayan international looks like a very solid player and at just 22 years of age, he would only be expected to get better moving forward.

Thus, if Manchester United are able to sign a player like Araujo, it would be considered as a major boost for the club, both for the present and the future.

Araujo’s current deal with Barcelona runs out in the summer of 2023 and the La Liga giants are believed to be looking to extend his contract soon.
