Ronaldo names Manchester United star among best in history
Many fans will remember Ronaldo scoring an incredible hattrick against Manchester United, while representing Real Madrid back in 2003. On that night, he had earned himself a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd. Arguably the best striker in the history of the game, there were many supporters who would have wanted Sir Alex Ferguson to bring him to the club after witnessing that performance.
A few months later, Manchester United would go on to sign Ronaldo, but a different one. Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Old Trafford as a teenager and by the time he left, he had already established himself as a club legend.
After more than a decade away, he sealed an incredible return to Manchester United in the summer. And he has looked like he never left, coming in and immediately establishing himself as a leader and the club’s main source of goals.
And Brazilian legend, Ronaldo, believes that the Portuguese superstar is among the four best players in the history of the game. As reported by GOAL, he said:
"“For me, in the classification of the best in history, the four names would be Pele, Maradona, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, they are the top four in the history of football”."
Ronaldo has named the Manchester United star among the best in history
While a list of the greatest players in history is always going to be subjective, Ronaldo’s one is pretty good to say the least.
Pele and Diego Maradona were widely recognised as the two best players of the 20th century. But it must be said that after what Messi and Ronaldo have achieved over the past decade-and-a-half or so, staying at the top of the game throughout that incredible period of time, they must be included in that conversation as well.
Of course there are many other players who could be among the greatest in history as well and that debate will never end. In fact, the Brazilian legend himself could have been much higher in that list if not for the injuries that he suffered through the course of his career.
