Manchester United have been linked with a midfield signing for quite some time, as it has been clear for a while that the Red Devils need to strengthen in the middle of the park. Nemanja Matic was world-class in his prime but he is now 33 years of age. Paul Pogba’s future is very much up the air. And on the other hand, despite their impressive performances recently, questions have been asked about Fred and Scott McTominay when it comes to consistency.
Manchester United were expected to sign a midfielder in the recent summer transfer window but did not end up doing so, despite there being links with several players.
But one has to feel that sooner or later, the club will have to make an addition there. And there are several interesting options to consider.
It remains to be seen whether they end up doing so in January, next summer or further down the future.
Manchester United: 3 midfielders the Red Devils could sign
Here are three midfielders that Manchester United could sign in the near future in order to strengthen in the middle of the park:
Declan Rice
Declan Rice has been an absolute standout for West Ham United in recent times and is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League right now.
He has also made his mark in the England national team and was a huge part of their run to the final of EURO 2020.
Rice has been linked with a move away from West Ham United for quite some time now but it has never transpired. It is believed that the Hammers rate him at a transfer fee around £100 million.
Next summer could be the perfect time for him to depart the club though. Rice will be 23 years of age at that point of time and looks more than ready for a big move. And if the opportunity is there, Manchester United should try to sign him.
