The last few months have brought significant changes at Manchester United. Coming into the campaign, there had been stability in the dugout for quite a while, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been the manager of the club for nearly three years. But after a disappointing start to the season, the Red Devils decided to part ways with the Norwegian and bring in Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager.

The German is expected to remain in that role till the end of the season, after which he is set to take a consultancy role at the club for two years.

After Solskjaer’s departure, several other coaches have left as well. Michael Carrick had an impressive run as the caretaker manager but surprisingly decided to leave after his short stint in charge of the team came to an end. Kieran McKenna and Martyn Pert have left for Ipswich Town since then.

On the other hand, additions are being made to Rangnick’s backroom team at Old Trafford. As reported by Sky Sports, Manchester United are close to finalising a deal for Ewan Sharp to become an assistant coach and analyst.

Sharp spent most of his career at different clubs in the MLS and already has experience of working with new Manchester United coach, Chris Armas from their time together at Toronto FC. He spent significant time at New York Red Bulls as well, which is where Rangnick must have come across him.

It will be interesting to see how Sharp does, if the move to Manchester United does end up going through.

One thing is for sure though, Manchester United are certainly backing Rangnick right now in terms of his coaching team. And rumours have suggested that they could do the same in the transfer market when the January window opens. Things are getting interesting at Old Trafford.
