Manchester United enjoyed a spectacular summer transfer window, keeping their core squad together while adding the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton to their ranks. Back at that point of time, the Red Devils were considered as genuine contenders for the Premier League title. It is safe to say that things did not go as expected though.

Manchester United made a very disappointing start to the season and ultimately, ended up showing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit door.

After a short spell from Michael Carrick as caretaker manager, Ralf Rangnick was brought in as the club’s interim manager till the end of the season. Rumours have suggested that Manchester United are ready to back the German coach in the January transfer window.

And it looks like they could be closing in on their first signing of the Rangnick era. As reported by Four Four Two, Manchester United are close to bringing Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara to Old Trafford for a transfer fee around £10 million.

Kamara has been a standout in Ligue 1 in recent times. But his current deal with Marseille runs out in the summer of 2022 and thus, he could be available for a bargain transfer fee this January.

He could be a solid addition for Manchester United, considering the fact that they have needed to add to their options in the middle of the park for a long time. They were expected to do so in the summer but did not and in hindsight, it appears to have been a mistake for sure.

Rangnick’s sides are known for playing with a couple of holding midfielders and as a result, the potential signing of Kamara would be a huge boost for the manager. Although, it must be pointed out that Fred and Scott McTominay have done a tremendous job in recent weeks.
