Manchester United have one of the best squads in the world right now but it is not perfect. And as we have already seen this season, they are quite some distance away from the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. Their ultimate aim must be to get back to the top of the Premier League and thus, future transfer windows could prove to be very vital for the club.

What has made things more difficult for the Red Devils though is the fact that several players are being linked with Old Trafford exits after not receiving the game time that they must have been looking for.

Thus, not only do Manchester United need to strengthen their squad as it is, but they might need to replace departing players in the future as well.

Thus, it will be interesting to see what this team looks like after the next couple of transfer windows.

It is safe to say that during his prime, Nemanja Matic was a world-class midfielder who has already proven that he can play a big role in Premier League winning sides during his time at Chelsea.

But he is 33 years of age now and no longer in his prime as a footballer. Yet, he is still the most natural defensive midfielder at Old Trafford.

Thus, it is clear that the Red Devils need to sign a defensive midfielder sooner or later. They were expected to make an addition in that position last summer but did not end up doing so. Let’s see what the future holds though. The form of Fred has provided Manchester United a massive boost in this regard.
