Edinson Cavani
It is interesting to see how much things have changed since last season. Coming into the 2021/22 campaign, Cavani was expected to be the club’s leading striker after a spectacular finish to the 2020/21 season.
Cavani had arrived as a free agent in the summer of 2020 and endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford, struggling with both injuries and form. But he came into his own in the second half of the season and found the back of the net consistently for the Red Devils.
During that period of time, he was one of the best strikers in England. But it is safe to say that things have not quite worked out for him this season till now.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United combined with Cavani’s own injury problems have meant that he has not played a lot of football this season. And as a result is being linked with a move away.
Recent rumours have suggested that Barcelona are interested in signing him on loan in January and it remains to be seen if that ends up happening.
Dean Henderson
Henderson had appeared to nail down his spot between the posts for Manchester United in the second half of last season as many considered him as the long-term goalkeeper for the club.
David de Gea had struggled for a few seasons and it was believed that it was time for a change at Old Trafford. In the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, Henderson had pretty much moved ahead of the Spaniard in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order.
It is hard to imagine that just a few months ago, it was believed that De Gea’s time at Manchester United was coming to an end. He has been nothing short of sensational this season while it looks like it is Henderson who could be headed for the exit door instead.
Rumours have suggested that Henderson is open to leaving the club as early as January in search of regular football if the right offer is there.
