Manchester United’s signing of Edinson Cavani was initially thought to be a bit of a risk for the club. With the Uruguayan striker joining the Red Devils on a free transfer, there were a lot of questions about how he would adjust to the Premier League at that stage of his career. And to be honest, the start was not great and at one point of time, he was being heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit.
But then, Cavani came into his own in the second half of the season and played some tremendous football. Ultimately, in his first season at the club, he registered 17 goals across all competitions according to stats from Transfermarkt.
Following his excellent performances, Cavani signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United and was expected to be the man leading the line for the club this season. Things have not quite gone that way though.
Cavani is yet to find his goalscoring mojo this season. He has so far scored just once. The lack of playing time is an issue, which is a result of Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival as well as the Uruguayan’s own injury problems.
Manchester United superstar’s agent comments on his future
Cavani’s current contract with Manchester United is set to run out next summer. As a result, the striker is already being linked with a potential Old Trafford exit. And as reported by ge.globo, his agent, Walter Guglielmone, said:
"“We have to wait a bit (about a return to South America), we will see what possibilities exist. Obviously, if any team from Brazil comes up with a good project, we can always listen. I have an obligation to get Cavani all the options.”"
The Manchester United superstar has been linked with the likes of Juventus, Barcelona, and Corinthians in recent weeks.
If Cavani was to leave Manchester United on a free transfer next summer, there would not be expected to be any lack of suitors. He is not the only forward being linked with an Old Trafford exit though.
Manchester United could end up seeing Anthony Martial leave soon as well, with the Frenchman believed to be interested in leaving the club in the upcoming January transfer window.
