Michael Carrick did a better job as the caretaker manager of Manchester United, following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit, than anybody could have expected. He steadied the ship and navigated the club through three very difficult games, getting two impressive wins and a draw. As a result, his decision to leave the club came as a surprise to many, after he had only enhanced his reputation during his short stint in charge of the Red Devils.
Carrick had been a coach at Manchester United since the time of Jose Mourinho and was there for the entire run of Solskjaer. And many expected him to remain in the dugout during Ralf Rangnick’s run as interim manager as well but that was not to be.
It is pretty clear that he was very highly rated at Old Trafford which is the reason they trusted him to take the caretaker role. And as reported by GQ, many of Manchester United’s staff were gutted that he left.
Since his departure, Rangnick has made his own additions to the Manchester United backroom staff, as the German looks to get the season back on track.
Carrick’s decision to leave Manchester United came as a surprise to many
After spending years at Manchester United as a player and in a coaching role, it appears that Carrick felt that it was time for a change.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for him, and whether he goes into management himself or takes a break before making any decision on his future.
It is safe to say that his exit was a blow to Manchester United. Not only had he spent significant time in the coaching role but had a legendary career at Old Trafford as a player as well and knew the club like the back of his hand.
Manchester United must have their eyes set on the future though and let’s hope that Rangnick is able to guide them towards a successful season.
