Major update on Manchester United loanee’s future after big mistake
Andreas Pereira was one of the few first-team players Manchester United sent out on loan in the last summer transfer window. With the Red Devils having creative midfielders such as Bruno Fernandes, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek in their ranks, it was going to be tough for the 25-year-old to break into the starting XI on a regular basis.
Therefore, a loan move appeared to be the best route to ensure some regular playing time for the midfielder. And interestingly, he chose to move to Brazil and joined Flamengo on a one-year loan deal.
Pereira began the season for the Brazilian club extremely well. Playing as a regista, he has dictated the flow of the game for Flamengo and showed a different side to his own game.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided an assist in 23 appearances for the Brazilian side so far.
Flamengo want to keep Manchester United player despite big mistake
Flamengo met Palmeiras in the final of Copa Libertadores. In the game, Pereira made a big mistake in extra time that led to the opponents scoring and winning the game 2-1 and consequently the competition.
Naturally, there has been a lot of criticism of the player in the aftermath. But as reported by Extra, Flamengo are keen to keep hold of Pereira and will look to negotiate with Manchester United in order to reduce the €20 million transfer fee that it might take to sign the player on a permanent basis.
Pereira is seemingly happy at Flamengo and it is believed that he wants to continue playing his football in Brazil.
Now, it remains to be seen if a permanent move is on the cards. Even last summer, Pereira was linked with a transfer away but ultimately it didn’t materialise and he remained a Manchester United player.
