Ralf Rangnick will be the Manchester United interim manager until the end of the season after which he will take a consultancy role, while the club look for a long-term solution in the managerial hot seat at Old Trafford. This is quite a big move on the part of the Red Devils and it will be very interesting to see how the legendary German coach does in English football.

There is no question about the fact that Rangnick is one of the most influential and innovative managers of his generation. And he has had notable spells at clubs like Schalke, RB Leipzig and others. But it is safe to say that Manchester United would represent the most high profile job of his career till now.

A lot of questions have been there about his potential coaching team, although it looks like Manchester United will retain much of their backroom staff from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time at the club.

And Rangnick appears to have been handed a blow regarding his coaching targets even before managing his first game for the Red Devils. As reported by Metro, the German’s first choice to serve as his assistant at Manchester United was Lars Kornetka but he looks set to remain at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Rangnick’s first choice won’t be joining him at Manchester United

This does not look like the start that Rangnick would have wanted as the Manchester United interim manager. Kornetka is very highly regarded and could have been a great addition to the club.

Unfortunately, it does not look like we will get to see him in the Old Trafford dug out in the near future.

It remains to be seen how things unfold at Manchester United from here on. They have certainly steadied the ship a bit over the past couple of games. Now, it is about continuing to improve and hopefully they will get back in the title race at some point.
