Ralf Rangnick has been appointed as the Manchester United interim manager. And after a while, there is once again some excitement around Old Trafford. There is a lot of intrigue surrounding the German manager’s arrival to say the least. He is one of the most influential figures in modern football management.

He shaped Gegenpressing, which is based around the idea of winning back the ball from the opposition as soon as possible through intense pressing and has been used to great success by Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League in recent years. Rangnick also popularised the idea of zonal marking.

While Rangnick has enjoyed notable spells at clubs in Germany before this, it is safe to say that Manchester United would represent the most high profile job of his storied career till now. And thus, it will be interesting to see how he does.

One club that Rangnick spent a long time at before this is RB Leipzig and naturally, Manchester Untied are expected to be linked with players from the Bundesliga side following the interim manager’s appointment.

Dani Olmo was a standout performer for the Spanish national team at EURO 2020 and has recently been linked with not just Manchester United but FC Barcelona as well.

The former FC Barcelona youth star has been impressive for RB Leipzig in recent years as well and is highly regarded in Germany. So much so that it is believed that any potential move could involve a transfer fee around €70 million.

It remains to be seen if any club ends up making a move for the Spanish star in the near future, who at 23 years of age is a bright prospect to say the least.
