With Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United and Lionel Messi leaving FC Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain, it is safe to say that the recent summer transfer window was one of the most surprising in football history. Two of the greatest to ever step on a football pitch, it is safe to say that their names will forever be linked with each other and for good reason.
For around 15 years, both Ronaldo and Messi have been at the top of the game. That kind of consistency is almost unheard of. And even well past their 30th birthdays, both are still going strong.
Since changing clubs in the summer though, both have had their hiccups. Ronaldo has found the back of the net consistently for Manchester United but the team’s performance has left a lot to be desired. On the other hand, Messi has not had the perfect start at Paris Saint-Germain either although it looks like he is now starting to come into his own.
Amidst all this, Messi has commented on Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United. As reported by Marca, the Argentine legend said:
"“Cristiano already knew the club, but that was in another stage and now he has adapted impressively. From the beginning he has scored goals as always and had no problems adapting.”"

It is safe to say that things have not gone as smoothly for neither Messi nor Ronaldo since the summer and they have not made the impact that fans would have wanted or expected from them, till now.
But if we have learned anything over the years, it is that one cannot count either of them out. We are still in the early stages of the season and anything can happen between now and May.
One would expect both Messi and Ronaldo to improve as the season progresses. While neither of them might be in their prime anymore, both are still amongst the best players in the world and one cannot help but respect what the two have achieved over the years.
