Manchester United must be happy with the 1-1 draw that they got against Premier League leaders Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge. While they might have played on the back foot for most of the game, they made their opportunity count when it came. Jorginho could not control a ball around the half way line and Jadon Sancho was completely through on goal. The summer signing kept his calm and slotted it past Edouard Mendy into the net to give the Red Devils an unexpected lead.

Chelsea would later equalise from the penalty spot but it was one point won and not two lost from Manchester United’s perspective.

It does look like the Red Devils have become much more solid since Michael Carrick has taken over as their caretaker manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit but his run is not expected to be long.

Eric Bailly effectively confirmed that a new manager is set to arrive in the near future. As tweeted out by Julien Laurens, he said:

Manchester United are expected to bring in a new manager soon

While nothing official has been announced yet, all signs point towards the club’s new manager being Ralf Rangnick.

The German is expected to become Manchester United’s interim manager until the end of the season after which he will take a consultancy role at Old Trafford for two years. On the other hand, the club will look for a long-term solution next summer.

It is safe to say that there is quite a bit of excitement when it comes to the potential appointment of Rangnick. He is one of the most legendary managers of this generation, who shaped the Gegenpressing philosophy and popularised the idea of zonal marking. And if he did end up at Manchester United, which is looking likely, it would be the most high profile job of his storied career.
