Manchester United almost pulled off a surprise win against Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge. Admittedly, the Red Devils spent the majority of the game on the back foot and the hosts had the lion’s share of the chances. But when the opportunity came, Jadon Sancho took it expertly to give the visitors an unexpected lead against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Jorginho failed to control a high ball around the half way line and Sancho reacted quickly, and was completely through on goal. It was only a matter of finding his way past Edouard Mendy after that and the English winger kept his calm in front of goal.

But then, Aaron Wan-Bissaka gave away a penalty when he took out Thiago Silva in the box. Jorginho made no mistake this time around, converting from the spot to make it 1-1. And ultimately, the two sides could not be separated at the end of the 90 minutes.

If they had not given away the penalty, Manchester United might have even gotten all three points against the Blues. While commentating on Sky Sports and as reported by Metro, Jamie Carragher said about the incident:

"‘It’s very rash from Wan-Bissaka.‘He kicked right through the back of him. It’s reckless. What is he thinking? Thiago Silva’s back is to goal.’"

Manchester United managed to get a draw against Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge

Overall, Manchester must be happy with getting a point out of the game against Chelsea, although they could have possibly gotten three.

Chelsea were nowhere near their clinical best in this match and even got themselves into trouble on a few occasions.

But from Manchester United’s perspective, it was one point earned rather than two dropped against the Blues. And this result means that the Premier League race is now wide open again, with Chelsea no longer having their three point cushion at the top. Manchester City are just one point behind while Liverpool trail by two points. There is quite some gap after that though.
