Most of the rumours surrounding Manchester United over the last few days have been about Ralf Rangnick. While nothing is official yet, it does look like the legendary German manager is set to become the interim manager of the club until the end of the season, following the earlier exit of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Red Devils’ 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford last weekend left them sitting at 8th in the Premier League table.
Rangnick is one of the most important managers in the modern game who has influenced the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann, just to name a few.
Thus, it is not hard to understand why there is a lot of excitement surrounding the potential move. And it will be interesting to see how he performs if does end up in the Old Trafford hot seat. While Rangnick might have had notable spells at clubs like Schalke, RB Leipzig and others, there is no doubt that Manchester United would be the biggest job of his career.
And if he does end up producing results, he might not step down from the role at the end of the season after all. As reported by The Sun, Rangnick has not ruled out becoming Manchester United’s permanent manager next summer and club chiefs are considering a contract clause which would allow him to continue next term, depending upon the situation.
Could Rangnick become the long-term Manchester United manager?
For the time being, it looks like Rangnick is set to have a six-month stint as Manchester United’s interim manager, before taking a two year consultancy role at the end of it.
But, if Manchester United produce impressive results during his stint in the hot seat, one must definitely consider giving him the role on a permanent basis.
Klopp has enjoyed great success in the Premier League using the system that Rangnick shaped, Gegenpressing, and Tuchel’s Chelsea side have elements of it as well.
