Manchester United look set to appoint Ralf Rangnick as the club’s interim manager soon, after showing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit door after the Red Devils slipped down to 8th in the Premier League table. And it is safe to say that there is a lot of excitement around the move for the legendary manager, especially after the success that other German managers have enjoyed in English football in recent years.

Rangnick is one of the most important figures in modern football management who helped shape Gegenpressing and popularised zonal marking. He also influence the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann and many others.

While Rangnick has had notable spells at clubs like Schalke, RB Leipzig and others, it is safe to say that if he ends up in the Manchester United hot seat, it would be the biggest job of his career.

There’s some interesting news about the potential appointment though. As reported by the Daily Star, Manchester United stars were left in the dark over the decision surrounding Rangnick and a number of players were less than impressed that the club didn’t bother to let them know before the news had leaked out in the media.

Would Rangnick be a success at Manchester United?

The move for Rangnick is not over the line yet but it is safe to say that it would be a huge surprise if it does not end up happening from here on.

It would be interesting to see how someone like Rangnick does at Manchester United in the interim role and which players fit his system and who do not.

Rangnick’s style of football is based on intense pressing and winning back the ball from the opposition as soon as possible. Klopp has used this system to great success at Liverpool in recent years.
