Jadon Sancho broke his duck for Manchester United by scoring his first goal for the club, against Villarreal, with the 2-0 win seeing the Red Devils book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League this season. It was Cristiano Ronaldo who scored the other goal on the night, as the team impressed immensely in Michael Carrick’s first game in charge as caretaker manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit.
It must be said that Sancho has not made the start to life at Old Trafford that he or the fans would have expected when he first arrived. In fact, he had neither scored nor assisted a goal for the club before this one.
That is quite surprising considering the fact that Sancho was one of the most exciting and effective players in world football during his time at Borussia Dortmund. But he just has not got it going at Manchester United, till now.
Sancho sent a message after scoring his first goal for Manchester United. He tweeted out:
Sancho scored his first goal for Manchester United since joining in the summer
Fans will be hoping that this goal is the first of many and that Sancho can use this performance as the platform to bounce back and establish himself at Manchester United.
Most people would have expected him to come in and nail down a spot in the first-team. But it is safe to say that that has not turned out to be the case. In fact, he has found himself on the bench quite often in recent times.
But his last few performances have been impressive as it has felt like he is slowly but surely finding his feet. And this goal against Villarreal is further proof of that. Now, the important thing for Sancho will be to build on this display and establish himself in the first-team.
